The main reason for joining Starfleet, is the same reason Charnack derives a sense of satisfaction and joy out of fixing things. The clear and definite purpose. Halting or pausing mid task is something he found distressing in the past, but it is something he is learning to manage at present. Recently loosing a foot on an away mission and having to adapt to a prosthetic appendage has taken his impatience down a notch, the experience teaching him that repeated attempts at relatively straightforward concepts or tasks are not just acceptable but something to be praised.
