Summary

Tanna is a brilliant young science officer struggling with death and loss, and balancing that against her lust for life, friendship and discovery.

Appearance

Tanna Irovin is 21 years old with an athletic build, olive skin, black irises, and long black hair that is usually pulled into a tidy ponytail while on duty. On duty she is very focused on work, and this can sometimes lead to her being short in the interest of cutting idle chit chat. Off duty she is very affable, and always down for long conversations, almost directly opposite to her on-duty attitude, and she enjoys wearing more loose fitting clothes. In her quarters she can almost always be found in garments common to the late 1900’s/early 2000’s, with movies or music going in the background.  During an away mission, she was grievously wounded, resulting in a bionic graft to her right shoulder, and extensive scarring from the resulting reconstruction.

Personality

Tanna Irovin is a kind person, generally, who loves the pursuits of science and exploration. She loves collaborating with her peers, and enjoys entertaining in her off hours, typically in the form of movie nights in her quarters, where she has showings of late 1900’s and early 2000’s movies on her ancient television.

Tanna suffers from PTSD caused by her harrowing away mission, and now tries to avoid them when possible. She is also sensitive to sudden loud noises and bright lights, and tends to become angry. There are times when she will disassociate with her surroundings, and become very silent. She is friendly, and enjoys the company of friends, but has a hard time being intimate, due to the loss of a loved one during the attack.

Her injury sometimes affects mobility, and causes pain. She is also embarrassed by the scarring, so is almost always dressed in at least short sleeve shirts, and when not on duty she wears baggy t-shirts to hide her bionic implant.

History

Early Life: 2380-2396

From a very early age, Tanna was always enamored with Ancient Earth Culture, specifically the late 20th and early 21st centuries. It was a love she inherited from her mother, who was born on Earth in 1975, but through an anomaly in time was brought forward to the mid 24th century. Tanna loved hearing stories about her mother’s early life, which manifests itself in the decor of her quarters.

Starfleet Academy: 2396-2400

During an training mission, Tanna lead a successful survey of a previously uncharted ecosystem. Her discoveries contributed to Starfleet’s understanding of that particular region, and showed off her leadership capabilities. She also took part in a Mentorship program, helping younger cadets in their studies. She would have graduated near the top of her class, but her love of late 1900’s stories and media led her to pulling some pranks on her peers that landed her in front of a Rear Admiral once or twice.

Recent Career: 2400-2401

During her first year as an Ensign aboard the Cromwell, she was a part of a joint science operation studying life on a “prehistoric” planet on the border between Federation and Romulan space. They were four weeks into the mission when the base camp was attacked by a Reman terrorist faction. Due to atmospheric interference from a high intensity storm, communication was disrupted and neither the Cromwell or the Romulan Science Vessel in orbit above the planet knew about the attack until after the storm had ended, 48 hours later. By the time they heard the distress calls, 23 of the 30 personnel had been killed, and 5 more including Tanna had been seriously wounded. Tanna’s arm was almost completely torn off from shrapnel when an explosive charge was set off, destroying the shuttlecraft on the ground. She still managed to defend her colleagues, and kill the attackers when they forced the doors of the lab open, alongside the two uninjured members.  With no medical personnel on the ground, and no proper way to clean and dress the wound, irreparable damage was done to the tissue surrounding the wound, making full reconstruction impossible. Had the storm lasted any longer, she may have lost the arm entirely. She now has a bionic implant over her shoulder which connects the nerve endings, a replacement rib, rotator cuff, collarbone and shoulder blade.
