Appearance
Ada Josephs is 5’7. Her long brown hair is usually tied up in a ponytail out of lifelong practice. Ada is not given to fashion, style, or anything beyond her daily uniform and duties. She has hazel eyes.
Personality
Ada Josephs is driven. Her journey from home to the Academy to Starfleet has produced a strong sense of determination. Her residency trained her to harness her composure and extend her patience in emergency scenarios.
History
Early Life
Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ada showed an intense curiosity about medicine throughout her childhood and young adulthood.
Ada became a rebel in high school. She met and became friends with Park Seoyeon, and both girls became frequent flyers in the principal’s office. While Park’s parents gave her the option of Starfleet or reform school, Ada’s did not. She graduated from high school in 2384 in the middle of her class and applied to the Academy.
Starfleet Academy (2384-2388)
Ada’s journey paralleled Park’s with one key difference—Ada was a fighter. Her Academy files were filled with praise as well as disciplinary notes. There were multiple incidents during her Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. She was summoned to a panel of Academy instructors during her senior year.
Their message was simple: get it under control, or she would find her way out of the Academy. Ada and Park responded by isolating themselves from their classmates at every opportunity and focusing on saving themselves from losing out on a career. Their grades improved, and they passed their finals. Park was assigned to the USS Lake of Glory, a Miranda-class, while Ada was assigned to Starbase 1 as a medical assistant. She kept in touch with Park, visiting when they could.
She languished as a medical assistant and decided to follow her childhood dream—to be a doctor. She took remedial courses and spent the next year rebuilding her academic resume, determined to apply herself. In 2389, she submitted to Johns Hopkins University and was accepted.
Johns Hopkins University (2389–2393)
Ada’s time at Johns Hopkins was marked by hard work and time alone as a student focused on changing her direction and reputation. She spent some of her time in counseling, working through her poor life choices. In 2393, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science.
Harvard Medical School (2393–2397)
Ada applied to and was accepted to Harvard Medical School in 2396. The curriculum pushed her, but she maintained her position in the middle of her class through sheer perseverance. She often spent long nights studying and sought mentorship.
Residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO (2397–2401)
Ada began her residency in 2397 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. She quickly earned a reputation as a dependable resident who stayed calm under pressure. Her rotation through emergency medicine reinforced her triage skills and helped confirm that this was the path to follow.
Transition to Starfleet (2401)
Following the events of Frontier Day, Starfleet prioritized recruiting medical professionals. In October 2401, a Starfleet recruiter identified Ada’s potential. She accepted a transfer to Starfleet’s residency program.
By December 2401, Ada requested a posting aboard the USS Nova, part of the Montana Station Squadron, upon learning her longtime friend Commander Park Seoyeon was its CO. Starfleet approved her request.
In July 2402, the Nova was moved to another assignment, and Ada transferred to the USS Perseverance as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
