Following the recovery of the vessel, Traven, retained his commission in Starfleet and was given command of the USS San Clemente, a California class vessel in 2401.
Appearance
Average height with a sturdy build.
He has short, neatly styled light brown hair with hints of grey.
His complexion is fair, and his facial features are strong. His features do betray years of frontline service in Starfleet..
Personality
A native of Earth, he was born in the Scandinavian region where harsh landscapes of his childhood shaped his personality. Jorik Traven is as blunt as he looks, an officer moulded during wartime he is very direct and is instinct driven. However, he clearly priorities crew safety and the missions success over that of Starfleet protocol, something modern Captains are not as well known for.
He has clear field experience and this shows during difficult situations. He tends to treat every situation as a potential combat situation though, this is tempered by his Vulcan XO. He has great respect for T’Lenar whom he has served with for many years and trusts impeccably.
History
Early Life (2325-2347)
Jorik Traven was born in 2325 in the Scandinavian region of earth. He grew up on the coast of what was once Norway. He loved stories as a child and he as a person was shaped by stories. Tables of ancient seafarers, exploring earth beyond their horizons long before modern starships pushed the boundaries beyond the stars. Many in his family served in Starfleet at one point or another, though much of this was before he was born. He was very jealous of his siblings living on a starship when they were younger.
Throughout his childhood, the Federation was in a fairly stable time. One that people would later call the golden age of exploration. He saw himself as a descendent of those who braved the edges of maps and dreamed of doing the same.
At 21 years old, he applied for Starfleet Academy, he felt a deep yearning for exploration and wanting to serve the Federation. He had never really seen hardship at first hand but he was ready to prove himself worthy of the legacy he’d imagined since he was a child.
Starfleet Academy (2347-2351)
Jorik Traven began his time at Starfleet Academy on Earth in 2347. He was 22 years old. From the beginning he found he had a natural ability during tactical simulations and exercises. He was clearly pushing himself which would often create rifts between him and other classmates. He was not the most diplomatic of cadets but he earned respect from his peers for his relentless focus on completing mission objectives. He especially enjoyed and excelled in courses related to combat strategy.
During his final year he served aboard the cadet training vessel, the USS Republic. His bluntness earned him a bit of a reputation as a difficult student. However, his performance on the vessel marked him out as having excellent instincts in combat situations. By the time he graduated in 2351, he was known amongst his fellow cadets as a reliable officer.
Earth Spacedock – Security Officer (2351-2353)
USS Lantree – Tactical Officer (2353-2362)
In 2353, Ensign Jorik Traven was transferred to the USS Lantree, a miranda class vessel operating along the Federation/Cardassian border. It’s mission was primarily as a logistics vessel, supplying other ships and outposts in the region. Though, the Lantree often found itself in harms way. Escorting convoys and reinforcing colonies in this particular area of space was dangerous to say the least. For Traven, it was the position he had dreamt of.
He was finally out on the frontier of Federation space and had the chance to prove himself. What’s more, he was serving under seasoned veterans of multiple conflicts and he absorbed this information. He was promoted twice while assigned to the Lantree assuming greater responsibility at the ships tactical station.
USS T’Kara – Chief Tactical Officer (2362-2367)
Following a decade of service aboard the USS Lantree, Traven was promoted to Lt Cdr and reassigned to the USS T’Kara as the vessels Chief Tactical Officer. It was an older Excelsior class vessel again on the Cardassian border region of space.
The was between the two powers had resulted in a stalemate by the early 2360s, but the region remained fairly volatile. Traven was a seasoned combat officer at this point of his career and used the lessons learned aboard the Lantree to improve the vessels tactical readiness.
Of note, in 2365, during a prolonged defence of a Federation Science station, Traven coordinated an ambush which repelled the aggressors and prevented any civilian loss of life aboard the stations. For his actions he was awarded the Starfleet Medal for Bravery and Leadership. Hostilities formally ceased in the region in 2366 and the USS T’kara remained in the area as a key presence to maintain peace.
USS T’Kara – Officer Commanding (2367-2400)
Traven assumed temporary command of the USS T’kara in 2367 following his captains quick transfer to support Starfleet Intelligence operations. As the acting CO he oversaw border patrols within the region during a tense post-Wolf 239 period.
The USS T’Kara was lost with all hands on the boarder in 2367.
Starfleet Medical/Starfleet Academy – Patient (2400-2401)
Discovered by a Science vessel decades later in 2400, the USS T’Kara and many of the crew were recovered. Most of the crew accepting an offer of continued service within the fleet. Following a period of rehabilitation and retraining in modern Starfleet Operations, Traven was offered command of the USS San Clemente, a California class vessel in 2401.
Many of his previous crew opting to join him on board. A testament to the impact he had during his short sting as the commanding officer on board the USS T’Kara.
USS San Clemente – Officer Commanding (2402-Present)
The USS San Clemente, an aging vessel by modern standards, was undergoing a recommissioning itself when Traven took command in 2401. It had been mothballed for many years, only recently being pulled out of retirement.
It was assigned to Task Group 9, a part of Task Force 17, supporting Starfleet’s expansion into the unknown. The missions they’re given may not be as glamourous as newer vessels but they are essential to the Federations continued presence in deep space.
