History

Early Life (2339-2360)

Rima Saell was born on Bajor during the Cardassian occupation of the planet. While a difficult time for her and her family, she remembers nothing of Bajor itself. Shortly after her birth, her and her family escaped to Federation space.
Resettling on Alpha Centauri, Saell grew up in relative safety compared to that of her homeworld, though, the stories of the situation on Bajor and the suffering of her people still sit with her today. While not raised on Bajor, her family were deeply traditional, never forgetting their heritage, Saell continues this through her adulthood.
From a young age she developed a need to understand the world around her, why things were the way they were and what made everything work. She spend most of her childhood studying everything around her in an attempt to understand it all. This led to her joining the Science Division of Starfleet.

Starfleet Academy (2360-2364)

Rima showed early aptitude for scientific inquiry and observation. She joined Starfleet to contribute to the exploration and understanding of things yet understood. She was drawn by the dream of exploring the unknown.

She specialized specifically in stellar cartography, planetary sciences, and astrometrics. Some of her classmates at the academy were focused on glory, outwardly proud of Starfleet. While she had found her place in uniform and wanted to be part of the service, she was less concerned with that side of things, instead being focused on observation and analysis.

She also carried personal reasons in joining Starfleet, namely, Bajor’s occupation. It was an example of how difficult situations and political struggles could shape individuals lives. By serving, she believed she could play a part in preventing such inncidents.

USS T’Kara (2364-2367)

Saell was posted to the USS T’Kara following her graduation in 2364 as a Science Officer onboard.
This was a difficult time for the Federation, diplomatic relations with the Cardassians had lead to conflict along the border regions. The USS T’Kara was one of the vessels assigned to that region of space. Despite her being relatively new in post, her insights into the unknown directly influenced command decisions.
Two years into her posting the Chief Science Officer on board was reassigned, which opened the opportunity for her to step into the position temporarily. Though, no immediate replacement was found and she remained within the position until the vessels disappearance in 2367.

Starfleet Medical/Starfleet Academy – Patient (2400-2401)

Rima survived and was returned to the Federation when the missing T’Kara crew was finally recovered. Decades had gone by and she faced physical rehabilitation and the challenge of finding her place within a universe, and specifically a starfleet, that had evolved immensely during their absence.

Spending time at Starfleet Medical and later the Academy for retraining, Rima, along with many of the crew spent a year in study, bringing her scientific knowledge up to modern standards.

She was offered continued service within Starfleet. Following this period of rehabilitation and retraining and was assigned under her old CO to the USS San Clemente, a California Class Vessel 2402.

USS San Clemente (2402-Present)

As with many of the crew of the USS T’Kara, she followed her previous captain to the USS San Clement. She now serves as Chief Science Officer, where her leadership style, extensive field experience, and curiosity make her a constant within the senior staff.
