By 2400, Malik had risen to Executive Officer aboard Eos Station, where his skills and technical abilities proved critical during the Vaadwaur assault. He oversaw damage control teams, rerouted power through shattered systems, and coordinated evacuation attempts.

Desiring to move on from Eos, Malik was given command of the USS Oroville, in 2402, a logistics and support vessel specializing in resupply, relief operations, and mobile engineering assistance.
