Summary

Ensign Kim Jung-soo is a firebrand among the Brawley’s security detail. She’s a vigilant, quick-thinking specialist serving in a role akin to a naval small craft crewman. Hailing from the trading city of Hamhung in Korea, Jung-soo brings a mix of street-smart instincts and rigorous Starfleet discipline to every shift. Though short in stature, she’s tough, athletic, and relentless in her drive to prove herself. Her curious eyes burn with lively intensity. They reflect the youthful energy she brings to her post and the sharp focus that defines her work.

Jung-soo excels in fast-paced environments. She’s often tasked with intercept operations, tactical drills, and enforcement roles aboard ship and shuttle. Off-duty, she’s a student of martial arts, tactical theory, and true-crime narratives. Her bond with her cousin, the Brawley’s Chief Engineer, is one of her deepest connections. Both women share a fierce determination to rise through the ranks despite a modest start.

The words of her Security Chief ring within her ears. Lt. Cmdr. M’kath once told her that “she is as elite as she holds herself to be.” He inspired her to work hard in her training to build a strong skillset in Security operations. Constantly improving her ability to fight for the Federation drives her.

As she begins her Starfleet career, Kim Jung-soo stands ready for whatever the stars throw her way.

Appearance

Ensign Kim Jung-soo stands at 5’2″. Her frame is compact and athletic. She’s built for speed and sudden, decisive movement. Her training shows in the lean lines of her arms and shoulders. She is light on her feet, yet grounded like a coiled spring. Jung-soo seems alert but rarely tense. She seems to always be studying her surrounding and calculating.

Her face is angular and expressive. Sharp cheekbones and a strong jaw are softened by her youthful features. Her almond-shaped eyes are alive with restless energy. There’s a flicker behind them. It’s as though she’s always absorbing information and turning the gears of some private thought. Piercing, curious eyes are always searching. Sometimes they linger on the details others might miss.

Her hair is cut into a short bob that brushes the nape of her neck. Sometimes it is sleek and neat. Other times it is tousled, especially after a long security shift. Though naturally dark brown, she often experiments with streaks of bright color. Her favorites include shocking pink, deep blue and vibrant magenta. It’s not regulation, exactly. The ship’s captain hasn’t pressed the issue yet.

She keeps her uniform sharp and tight-fitting. Jung-soo favors utility belts and reinforced boots even off duty. Her posture is unmistakably Starfleet Security. Although she is diminutive, her presence can fill a room.

Personality

Ensign Kim Jung-soo is sharp, spirited, and tireless. She carries the discipline of a Security officer with the restlessness of a born explorer. She’s always chasing the next challenge. Her instincts are fast and her judgments are clean. She’s a natural when it comes to shipboard security protocols, close-quarters maneuvering, and tactical responses. Whether working perimeter checks or running drills on small craft interception, she performs with steady nerves and swift execution.

Her greatest strength is her adaptability. Jung-soo can pivot mid-action and thrive in unpredictable environments. She’s drawn to anything that demands precision under duress. She takes pride in being part of the Brawley’s backbone. Lt. Cmdr. M’Kath sees her as one of the quiet, necessary links that keeping the crew safe in the depths of space.

Jung-soo still struggles with doubt. Years of feeling overlooked have left her wary of praise and suspicious of easy success. She pushes herself hard. She tends to bury frustration beneath layers of humor or sarcasm. While fiercely loyal to those she trusts, she hesitates to let people in. Her cousin Mi-yeong is one of the few she confides in freely.

Ensign Kim collects retro survival gear and old Earth martial arts manuals. She practices regularly in the ship’s gym, favoring Taekwondo and Judo. She’s also an avid follower of true-crime holonovels and tactical simulations. Her hobbies include setting up small training games for other new security personnel.

Her ambition is clear. She wants command of her own security detachment one day. Ensign Kim also wants to serve on a long-range tactical response vessel. She wants to be known as someone who could always be counted on when things got tight. Her goal is to hold the line, even when no one else can.

History

Kim Jung-soo was born in the coastal city of Hamhung. Once an industrial stronghold in what was known as North Korea, it is now transformed into a thriving regional hub. Nestled between forested hills and the Sea of Japan, modern Hamhung became known less for its past struggles and more for its role as a quiet trading port. Freighters and research vessels moved goods between the Korean Peninsula, the Pacific Rim colonies, and the Federation’s northern orbital lanes. It was a city of modest ambition but proud traditions.

Jung-soo’s childhood was shaped by discipline and duty. Her parents ran a small cargo brokerage business. They coordinated transport manifests for Federation-aligned vessels passing through Hamhung’s orbital depot. Her mother was an atmospheric flight controller. She taught Jung-soo how to read air traffic patterns before she even learned multiplication. Her father was quiet, stern, and often exhausted. He trusted her with routing codes and storage schedules at any early age.

Her older cousin, Moon Mi-yeong, first introduced her to the stars. Mi-yeong would sneak Jung-soo into orbital maintenance bays and point out freighter class silhouettes as they coasted silently above the planet’s curve. She told Jung-soo stories of warp drives, subspace physics, and of crawling through plasma conduits just to fix a coolant leak no one else could trace. Jung-soo listened with rapt attention and a yearning in her chest she couldn’t quite name.

While Mi-yeong pursued a formal engineering track, Jung-soo found her path in strength, speed, and clarity of mind. She studied martial arts in the city’s modest Starfleet-aligned training center. Hand-to-hand combat was drilled alongside tactical thinking. Her instructors noted her knack for situational awareness and her strong command of non-lethal suppression techniques. “She doesn’t overpower,” one mentor observed, “she outpositions.”

After high school, Jung-soo applied to Starfleet Academy but didn’t make the first cut. Instead of giving up, she spent a year working as a civilian security liaison for a Federation customs checkpoint near Busan. She honed her skills in boarding protocol, scanned for contraband, and dealt with hot-tempered freighter captains twice her size without normally even raising her voice. Her file grew. She aquired commendations, reports, and letters of recommendation from ranking Starfleet officials.

When she was finally accepted into the Academy, she committed herself fully to the Security track. She specialized in shipboard interdiction, boarding defense, and internal tactical support. Her instructors often remarked on her coolness under pressure and her preference for concise solutions to complex threats. She became interested in roles similar to old Earth’s naval boarding teams. or small This included fast, tactical insertions and high-stakes defense within confined shipboard environments.

By the time she graduated, her cousin Mi-yeong had already secured a posting aboard the USS Brawley. With few open assignments and no high-profile opportunities available, Jung-soo accepted a position aboard the same California-class ship. At first, it like a compromise. She knew the ship’s reputation. She also knew every crewmember mattered. On ships like the Brawley, junior officers could make a name for themselves quickly.

Now Ensign Kim Jung-soo serves as a Tactical Readiness Officer. She’s an internal security and interdiction specialist focused on small-unit response and compartment lockdown protocols. While some joke about her role being “just another hallway guard,” her calm precision and compact lethality say otherwise.

She doesn’t plan on staying in the shadows for long.
