USS Astute

Echelon-class • NCC-97407 • Vega Long-Range Explorer Division • Task Force 72 • Managed by CAPT Trevenan Williams

The price of conflict is peace.

Tasked with assisting the survivors of the Nightfall Incursion rebuild what was taken by the Vaadwaur, Task Force 72 has assigned the USS Astute to pioneer reconstruction and relief operations throughout the former Demilitarized Zone.

The assignment of an Echelon – class vessel to lead the Astute Light – Cruiser Division speaks volumes about the instability inherent to the region since the Vaadwaur withdrawal. Not only did the incursion come at a time when Starfleet was at its lowest ebb and tenuous allies such as the Cardassian Union already much weakened, the resultant power – vacuum requires a ship equally at ease in patrolling the frontier as it is providing humanitarian aid.

Never has the motto of the USS Astute been more pressing or relevant;

Consilium et Prudentia”

(By Council and Prudence).

Vega Long-Range Explorer Division

With the United Federation of Planets facing its darkest days in the aftermath of the devastating events of Frontier Day and the Blackout, Starfleet is forced to reconsider it’s isolationist policies of the late 2390’s and once again turn it’s gaze to beyond the borders of Federated – space and seek out new worlds and opportunities to forge alliances to further stability and peace.

Dispatched to the Gamma Quadrant to re-open tentative links with the species and polities abandoned by the withdrawal of the Dominion, the Lamarr – class Long – range explorer, USS Vega, transits through the Bajoran Wormhole to New Bajor, fully aware that the line between soft diplomacy and resumption of hostilities is always one decision away.

Meanwhile, the Echelon – class USS Astute continues its ongoing mission to render humanitarian aid and provide security to the former DMZ, as it strives to hold the thin – red – line for a UFP that may have seen the setting of its golden – age.
